Toothache Reasons – Why Your Teeth May Hurt
For every symptom, there is a cause. Here are the most common causes for a toothache:
Do you experience sharp, quick pains when eating or drinking? Oftentimes, you are experiencing a temperature-sensitive toothache due to tooth decay, an exposed root, or maybe a loose filling. Make sure to keep your mouth clean and healthy by brushing and flossing daily with a sensitive toothpaste and check in with your dentist to make sure everything is okay.

Sometimes dental work can cause some residual dental pain. Did you put in a new tray of ClearCorrect invisible aligners or get a retainer? The most common form of tooth pain results from dental alignment systems and should subside quickly within a few days. If pain persists, give us a call!
Brushing and flossing improperly, not often enough, or too often, can result in inflamed or irritated gums. When your gums aren’t happy, your teeth aren’t happy either and this can cause discomfort. If you’re worried that you may be putting too much pressure when you’re brushing, let us know and we can give you a demonstration on brushing techniques and tips. We love to educate our patients!
Grinding your teeth can cause serious pain to your teeth, muscles, jaw, and neck. You may not know that you’re grinding your teeth (which often happens when we sleep), so it’s important to consult your dentist if you experience any discomfort in these areas. Mouth guards are made to fix teeth grinding and can eliminate pain. If left untreated, grinding can cause painful chipped or broken teeth.

Wisdom teeth are commonly known to cause pain because they crowd the mouth and push your teeth aside to make room. That’s why wisdom teeth are commonly removed. If any of your teeth are impacted or misaligned, they can push against each other and cause pain and sensitivity. Talk with us about our alignment options to help correct any misaligned teeth!
